Search overview

Search window in CD Bank is integrated into program's main window and has windows explorer-like interface. In right side of the window pane of entering search criteria, in the left one search results are displayed. Under the toolbar you can see info line, which displays selected search criteria and number of founded files. Under search window additional pane is located, which displays information regarding selected elements an "copy to" button.

You can use the Quick search for a file name (starting with specified letters) in the search results.

While you are in search window search button is in pressed mode. You can close search window and return to main CD Bank window by clicking search button in the toolbar - search results kept.

Search criteria

Name of file/folder Any symbol string - part of searched file name, search file mask (wildcard "*.*", "*.exe", "track???.*" for example), or quite file name (in double quotes, "read.me" for example).
File name query If checked then Query Builder is accessible, and query string is used (see Searching queries and Query Builder). Otherwise simple file mask is used.
Disk name Part of disk name. If disk name doesn't contain this string, disk will be skipped.
Specimens Part of specimen code. If disk have no any specimen which contain this string, disk will be skipped.
Disk description Part of disk description. If disk description doesn't contain this string, disk will be skipped.
Disk location One of disk locations from the list. If empty, all locations accepted.
Look in Limitation of search location, e.g. search in particular group of disks. By default has value "All base". Click over this field open the small group and disk tree. Another click select the item. For expand and collapse the group node use the [+] handle. Field also filled from the "Search in selected" item in context menu for disk or group in main window.
Files
Folders
When one box is checked, only files or folders accepted for results. If checked both, files and folders are accepted. If Files, Folders and Disks unchecked, search is disabled.
Disks If this box is checked only disks accepted for results. All file and folders criteria's will hide. If Files, Folders and Disks unchecked, search is disabled. You can perform file search and cd search separately.
File types list List of usual file types. By checking one or some of item you will allow to search files of selected kind. Place the mouse cursor over item and small hint window will appear. For example, "Executables" mean *.exe, *.com and *.bat files.
Specify date Specify the range of files dates. Use the Usual dates list for quick fill the dates range.
Specify size Specify the range of files sizes.
File in storage If checked, only files with stored preview (also named file body) will take to result. In appeared text box you can type the string to search in stored previews.

All search criteria are combined. For example, when you check the "Music files" box and type the "son" in the "Name of file/folder" filed, the results can be look like this:

  • Song 23.mp3
  • My son.wav
  • AlsoNever.wma

See Searching queries and Query Builder for more information.

Disk parameters ("Disk name", "Disk description", "Disk location" and "Look in") always checked first. We recommend specifying these parameters for fasting the search processing - cd search is fast!

Search by files and by folders are independent. For example, if you check the "Files", "Folders" and "Executables" box, you get the all Executable files and all folders (because file type condition is not apply to folders).

After search process complete, you can:

  • Go to founded file or folder;
  • Copy founded file or folder from media;
  • Copy founded item names to clipboard;
  • Save the results to file using Report;
  • Edit the result list with Remove selected / Crop selected commands.

Searching modes

There is a three searching mode:

  • New search results. Previous search result will be cleared.
  • Search in results only. New search will be operated only via previous search result. That mean what each search in results can bind the prior obtained list with new criteria. Moreover, search in results is many time faster than search in whole base.
  • Add new results to existing. Result of new search will be added to previous. This can create the tally (doubled) items in results.

If result list is empty, any search always treated as new.

Search results group and arrange

By default, search results grouped only by disk. In each disk founded files and folders is not arranged.

After search process done, search results can be ordering by clicking the some column header. Because search results can be huge, you will be asking for confirmation.

Arrange will be lost with next search operation.
